About

I often create my work by facing nature, be it mountain or river.
Nature is constantly in flux. It is never static. Because of that things do not always turn out the way I imagine.
Rain may fall preventing me to continue working. Strong winds may blow breaking my work.
And in most of my works, they are destroyed after being exhibited, leaving nothing behind.
Why? Because we have to put nature back to its original state.
Creating such works may go against the essential functions of art.
However, in the working of nature, especially in its cyclical function, I feel there is an embedded role which works to console our minds.
Rainwater that falls to the ground gradually get filtered and purified as it travels through the earth. Similarly, I feel that our thoughts can gain more clarity by aligning ourselves to such cycle of nature.
When I create my work, I often find myself with a sensation—as if nature is passing through my body—my consciousness melting into the minute particles of air. After a long passing of time, it then returns back to me, this time more refined. And then I realize I have been consoled a little bit.
For me, creating a work of art may be a way of assimilating myself to the great cycle of nature.
